RESUME / CV UPON REQUEST
For this project, I explored two contrasting mediums to construct experimental letterforms — one tactile, one simulated.
The analog component used shaving cream as a sculptural material. The three letterforms I chose — Q, K, and S — were drawn from a design studio my friend and I co-founded together, Quiet Kid Studio. Working on black cardboard, I sprayed and shaped the cream directly onto the surface, producing roughly 20 variations of each letter. The process became an exercise in controlled improvisation: shaving cream resists repetition, and each pass revealed something different about its range.
The digital component introduced me to Houdini, a professional 3D animation and VFX software used in film and motion pipelines. Having never used Houdini there was a sharp learning curve, that said, I experimented with modeling tools and inflation simulations to push standard typefaces into pressurized, balloon-like forms.
Together, the two mediums sit in deliberate tension: one shaped by hand and gravity, the other by physics engines and render logic.
